Two planning applications, for the redevelopment of the Back Inn Time site, to create 7 flats, have been refused by Chelmsford City Council in 2021. They can still appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against either, or both refusals, until the New Year. The applicant can ask for a public inquiry to be held into both, or either refusal.

Chelmsford CLP have objected to both planning applications refused, in 2021, on the grounds that both proposals will have a detrimental impact on the character and seting of the neighbouring listed building, known as Imperial House and other listed buildings in the area.   Chelmsford CLP intend to work with the City Council, if there are any appeals lodged by the applicant, to defend the existing Back Inn Time Restaurant.
