Wishing you all a Happy New Year! Welcome to your January newsletter. 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting time in the world of politics, and we are hoping to have plenty of opportunities for you all to get involved in this! Please read on for details of what we have been up to and what is coming up. |
What we’ve been doing |
In December, we held our Christmas social event – we were delighted that plenty of people turned out, and we’re pleased to confirm that we raised over £200 for the local party in the raffle! We were joined at the Christmas social by Bayo Alaba, the candidate for the new seat of Southend East and Rochford. Bayo talked about his background and the task ahead in Southend, setting out his plan to take the seat from the Tories. We have been ‘twinned’ by the Labour Party with this battleground seat, so will be visiting to help out between now and the election in addition to our campaigning in Chelmsford. |

A Big Thank You!! |
A big thank you to everyone who donated to our Chelmsford Foodbank appeal in the last newsletter! The donations were delivered on 15 December, and were gratefully received. |
Labour in the Community |
Jon, our Press Officer, has once again had a letter in the Essex Chronicle!
Essex Chronicle, 1 December 2023 With the inclusion of former Prime Minister David Cameron in the new cabinet, following the sacking of the Home Secretary, it would be interesting to know what Chelmsford MP Vicky Ford thinks of the fact. Someone not elected by anyone and by that not accountable to anyone is now holding one of the great offices of state as Foreign Secretary. Does she think this is not an affront to democracy? No one should have a place in the top ranks of Government unless they are elected by someone.
Chelmsford City Council, 11 December 2023 Our Vice Chair, Ione, wrote to Councillor Rose Moore, the Cabinet Member for a Greener and Safe Chelmsford about fly-tipping on Writtle Road. She responded, and the area has now been cleared. Public health and protection services, along with community policing leads, were contacted to ask that they consider deploying mobile CCTV in the area – we are waiting for an update to this, but Ione is on the case!
Please let us know if you have any local issues that you would like us to look into (see below for contact details). |
